Car leasing customers and other motorists across the UK are currently under pressure to become more eco-friendly and reduce the amount of harmful gases emitted by the vehicles they drive every day.
Carbon dioxide is the gas that plays the most significant part in climate change, with cars obviously contributing to levels of the compound that is released into the atmosphere.
Because of this - and following the 1997 Kyoto Conference - targets have been set for European countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The aim is now for all new cars to produce an average of 130 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre from 2012.
And it appears growing numbers of people in the continent are open to the idea of environmentally-friendly car leasing, judging by the findings of a report by Deloitte.
According to the results of the survey, 53 per cent of respondents are willing to consider either buying or leasing an electric vehicle (EV) at some point in the future.
Electric vehicles produce much less carbon dioxide than their diesel or petrol equivalents, while not having to regularly refuel saves owners considerable amounts of money.
Furthermore, UK consumers were found to be more willing to pay a premium for these types of vehicles than elsewhere in Europe, while the majority of Brits surveyed noted they would invest in an EV if it were able to drive for a modest 200 miles before requiring charging.
David Raistrick, automotive partner and head of manufacturing at Deloitte UK, said: "There is no doubt that electric vehicles are the future of the automotive industry," before adding: "I believe there is potential for green vehicles to represent 10% of the new car market within 10 years."
If you are a car leasing customer looking to cut costs and become more eco-friendly, why not take the time to browse the vehicles on offer at car leasing company UK Carline and choose a vehicle that produces the lowest carbon dioxide emissions.
Car leasing is also considered more convenient than outright purchasing - road tax is included, while you don't have to go through the process of buying or selling the car - and also helps customers avoid depreciation of vehicle value.
