Why Teeth Implants are Preferable to Alternatives

There are alternatives to the teeth implants which are encouraged by dentists as the best replacement for lost teeth. Examples include removable prostheses which are worn in the gap left behind by the missing teeth. However, there is a reason that dentists promote teeth implants as the gold standard in treatment for missing teeth and that is simply that they are the most effective.

Removable prosthetic teeth which may be worn and removed are cheaper than titanium teeth implants, but do not have as many benefits. They are a quick fix to solve the aesthetic problem of gaps in the teeth, but because they aren't physically attached to the jaw bone in the same way titanium teeth implants are, they do not protect from the shrinkage of the jaw bone that is so common in patients who have lost a significant proportion, or all, of their teeth.

Teeth implants are probably the most expensive dental replacement solution, but they are also the most effective option to choose. They are implanted directly into the bone of the jaw, serving the dual purpose of protecting the jaw from shrinking away and ensuring maximum stability. This means they are an effective replacement for real teeth by performing all the important roles of a natural tooth. They are made from clinical grade titanium which has a unique ability to integrate itself directly into the bone. Not only this but they are hypoallergenic.

It is unfortunate that after the teeth implants have been fitted, a period of a few weeks wait is required for healing before the second stage can be carried out in which the crown, the visible part of the tooth, is fitted. Nevertheless, this is an important step and it is worth the wait because it isn't uncommon for the implants to last a lifetime, so although the treatment is more invasive than simply wearing a removable device, they are certainly worth the money and time.

It is also important to note that teeth implants are fitted under a local anaesthetic, which reduces many of the risks which are commonly associated with general anaesthetics and surgery.
