I am aware there are several etiquettes, but let's look at mingle etiquette as it applies to every social event.
You and your clique- It is okay to be with your friends, but be acceptance and cordial should someone approach your clique. Cordial means to introduce yourself and everyone in the immediate gathering as well as the topic of the conversation.
2.Not satisfied with the topic or the clique okay, no one is paying you to stay. At any event you can politely excuse yourself. Use phrase such as "It was nice meeting everyone" with a smile, a handshake if appropriate for the event, hugs are conditional to the acquaintance, but always a smile and maybe a gentle wave of the hand.
3.It is an event, whether it is a wedding, party, fund raiser, or red carpet social free yourself from your clique. Walk around, introduce yourself to others, you might just find a special friend or a conversation of interest.
4.Do singles mingle with singles? Absolutely. You do not need to wait until you are at a bar; go ahead and begin talking to that individual you have been eyeing all evening.
5.If someone walks away during your conversation what should you do? There are choices:
A) Ask the individual to stay and chat with you
B) Ask why they are leaving
C) Compliment the individual (sometimes they may just stay longer and chat). D) Ask if it is okay to follow them (do not follow without permission)
E) Acknowledge their leaving "It was a pleasure to chat with you perhaps I will see you around" or "a pleasure to chat with you maybe we will meet up later.
6. Rude- being rude is not an acceptable behavior.
A) Rude is ignoring someone when they approach your clique.
B) Rude is everyone in the gathering stop talking stare and no one introduces themselves
C) Rude is saying such phrase as "may I help you".
7 .Just starring at someone continuously without introducing yourself, this behavior is rude and a bit eerie.
8.Drinking too much or talking loud- everyone consuming an alcoholic beverage should have knowledge of intoxication. Know your limits and feel your body's response. If your equilibrium is off, or you are sleepy, feeling nausea, experiencing double vision STOP drinking alcoholic beverages BEGIN drinking water and limit your conversation-Tomorrow you may have many regrets.
9. Being a guest at a wedding or any event is a memory, create your memory and enjoy the celebration.
