Football season, College and NFL is over. The Green Bay Packers are Super Bowl Champions and Auburn is the BCS Champion. The basketball season is winding down with the playoffs beginning in April. College basketball "March Madness" championships begin on March 15th. Major League Baseball Teams are in spring training getting ready for their regular season, which typically begins on the first Sunday in April. The NHL hockey season ends April 10th with the announcement for the Stanley Cup Playoffs to follow.
This years Super Bowl was a great match up of two football traditions, Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Green Bay Packers are Super Bowl history. It was their team, coached by the famous Vince Lombardi and quarterbacked by Bart Starr that won Super Bowl I and II. The Pittsburgh Steelers and their famous "Steel Curtain" having won four times between 1975 and 1980, with two more recent wins for a total of six Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophies. Two NFL powerhouse teams that gave us a great Super Bowl Game.
The NBA All-Star Game gave victory the West over the East with and incredible score of 148 to 143, a scoring bonanza. It was Kobe Bryant's night and he definitely shined the brightest among the stars, scoring 37 points. LeBron James recorded just the second triple-double in All-Star game history, but it wasn't enough for the East to beat the West. Miami and Boston have clinched playoff berths in the East, with San Antonio in the West. NBA playoff schedule will be announced when the regular season ends on April 13th. Even though the West won the All-Star Game, watch for Boston or Miami to win the NBA championship.
College March Madness is ready to begin. Stay tuned it is certain to be exciting. I'm a Florida fan and hope they can advance.
Spring training 2011 with the question of the day, what will happen to the New York Yankees. As usual they are suppose to wind up in the playoffs and possibly the World Series. Red Sox fans will be happy that all the numbers favor them as the best team in the American League with the Yankees following. Who knows, that's a long way off; the regular season has not even started. But I'm certain Yankee fan's everywhere would like to see them prevail and return to the World Series again.
NHL Hockey, or as I like to call it "fist o cuffs on ice" is rapidly winding up their season. The reigning champion Chicago Black hawks are hot now, which is exactly the run they need for a repeat performance and Stanley Cup title. However the Western Conference is so close the smallest slip by Chicago will cost them the chance to defend their title. Right now only the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings and perhaps San Jose Sharks are locks for playoff positions. The East is close with six teams separated by only eight points. The East could go in any direction, keep posted.
