Vocal exercises are a must for singers, theater performers and even actors. But more popularly for singers, these types of exercises may include, but are not limited to, breathing techniques, pitching, voice control, ear training, voice flexibility and stability, vocals training, stamina and even proper posture. Powerful vocalization helps build a stronger and more solid voice, and it enables one to control pitch.
For a professional, these are like warm up exercises before doing an intensive singing performance. Singers are required to sing a set of weird and cute sounding phrases or words to help them reach and hit high and low notes.
The truth is that our voice is never the same each time we sing. So you never know when your voice will be terrific or not, but training your vocals and doing some vocal exercises will at least assure you that you are training your voice to be better. You want to increase your range, quality and clarity to render powerful performances.
For instance, you might try the following when doing your vocal exercises. First you need to stand up straight. You do not sit down when singing as you want your voice to come out and your diaphragm to be in a good position. Hold your hands in the center of your chest and hit a very low key at first, singing "mi hi hi hi ea ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha." You start with a low "mi" and build higher towards "hi" until you get to "ea." Then you plateau until the third "ha," falling to lower notes in the final four "ha's." It is really just singing the word "Mia" in a disconnected way.
They say that singing is a skill and one has to be born with a gift or talent for it. Or it must be in the genes. That is why most people who do not have a gift for it do vocal exercises to become a better singer. Through time the voice will develop, although it really helps if you have a natural talent for it. But vocalization or training of the vocals can really work wonders for any voice.
Even singer and music artist Jessica Simpson swears that initially she did not have a very good singing voice and had to undergo singing classes. And yet she is currently a well known music artist. Some pop singers are not exceptional singers who would certainly benefit from vocal training. If you have a desire to sing, take your training seriously and make it a part of your routine to develop a better singing voice.
