Flat flannel sheets are used by many people to keep themselves from getting cold. It is for this reason that the sheets are still very much in demand today.
What is Flannel?
Flannel is wool textile, and the word itself comes from the Welsh flat flannel sheets, bed sheets, bed, furniture, hometerm for wool. One of the nice things about the material is that it can be mixed with other fabrics too. Cotton is often used as the blending material, but manufacturers can also use synthetic fabrics.
While the material used for blending varies, they all have insulating properties. The ability of flat flannel sheets to warm people during the cold season remains its strongest selling point.
Other Functions of Flat Sheets
Apart from its insulating properties, the flat sheets can also be used for decorative purposes. It is placed over the fitted sheet and below the comforter. Properly arranged, the three will make your bed look more striking.
Sizes
The sizes are 66 x 96 inches (or 167 x 243 cm) for the twin, 66 x 102 inches (or 167 x 259 cm) for the X-long twin, 81 x 96 inches (or 205 x 243 cm) for the full and 90 x 102 inches (or 228 x 259 cm) for the queen. The flat sheet size for the king and the California king are the same at 108 x 102 inches (or 274 x 259 cm).
Ounces of Flannel vs. Thread Counts
The thread count is the usual way sheet quality is judged. But this isn't always applicable to flannel, so ounces of flannel are typically provided instead. The ounces are given per square yard. The high quality flannel will have at least 5 oz. But if thread count is provided instead, use the following as a guide.
500 and up are of premium quality, while sheets in the 300 to 400 thread count range are excellent. Those in the 230 to 280 range are good. 200 and lower thread counts may be too coarse for some individuals.
Furthermore, the high thread count sheets are becoming more affordable, so there is no reason to settle for low quality sheets.

The cost of the sheets will vary depending on where you buy. If you want to cut back on costs, try searching at the Web. Some auction sites and stores sell these sheets at low cost when you buy in bulk.
