We are all products of nature. And in nature we find our sustainability, physical, mental and even spiritual. Wholesome nutrients, a clean and peaceful environment and our ability to understand our insignificance in the big picture of things. Thats as it should be.
But thats not as it really is.
In the hectic, crowded surroundings we have to tolerate today, this ideal is very hard to visualize. Our food production is completely industrialized, grain, meats, dairy products, vegetables; you name it, its mass produced as cheaply as utterly possible. And otherwise the bulk of humanity would starve. As it is, most of us escape starvation, but in the process we miss out on many natural elements, elements that evolution has built in a need for, elements that keep us in peak condition, to better our chances of survival.
Some of us are lucky enough to be born into societies that have educated us, enabled us to lead productive lives, earn money, raise children, enjoy the good things. In spite of all that bliss, some people get sick, some terminally, in early middle age. The intestines get bungled up. Vital organs start to malfunction like unattended engines. Blood vessels get clogged. The brain loses some of its conscious ability.
Then again there are others that escape these fates. And if the reasons are sought, many of the lucky ones share similar circumstances, access to fresh food, continuous moderate physical exercise and a positive attitude towards life. Have you ever wondered, why are the over hundred years old that we are shown on TV always rather poor, live in rural societies that produce their own food, take naps during the day and dont give a shit for the fiscal and political condition of the world?
Rural societies have customs and knowledge dated centuries back. Bitter experience has taught people what to use in their fight for health and well-being. And they have only their natural surroundings to turn to. In every society there are individuals who conserve, and add to, the knowledge of herbalists, collected through the ages. Modern societies have, of course, come up with modern methods of using this knowledge. As always, with mass production, if not, we wouldnt be able to afford these remedies. Therefore, we are able to obtain and use herbal remedies for many ailments, remedies that are proven through the ages, remedies that are naturally obtained.
