subject: Legitimacy Of Marriage - Equip Yourself With The Right Knowledge [print this page]

What is marriage? Marriage is a contract between two consenting people, man and woman, who have decided that they will live together for better or for worse and in sickness and in health. It is a written pact binding and uniting couples legally where they promise to be together for the rest of their lives. It is also said that marriage is the basis of a family and it is the knot that makes their relationship stronger. The ingredients of marital life should always be present such us love, belief in each other, respect, loyalty, thoughtfulness and appreciativeness. Armed with all of these, your marriage will endure the test of time and will enable you to hold each other until the rest of your life.

Today marriage is not only true to couples of the opposite sex. Same sex marriages are already allowed nowadays such as gay or lesbian marriage. However, many people feel that same sex marriages are not legitimate. If you are going to follow the teachings of the Bible, it is stated that only men and women are allowed to marry each other. The Bible says that you are committing a sin if you have a relationship with a person of the same sex:

This is clearly stated in Romans Chapter 1 verse 27 which states that "and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error".

So while same sex marriage is allowed by law, the act is seen as a sin in the eyes of the Bible. They may be bonded under the law of man but their relationship will never be blessed by the laws of God. This is where the legitimacy of marriage between couples differs.

The sanctity of marriage is recorded in Genesis, the first book of the Bible.

It is stated there that God created man and then made woman to complement him. Marriage is God's "fix" for the fact that "it is not good for the man to be alone". It is clear that a man should marry a woman, and a woman should marry a man. You can never call a man a wife nor call a woman as husband.

Whatever it might be, the best marriage is a marriage that is in accordance to God's law.
