Yikes, I only had $600 and was in dire need of a laptop computer pronto! Glad I saw the Toshiba L505 online and made the purchase... I am typing this article on that very computer as you read this.
The Toshiba Satellite L505-GS5035 is in a long line of models from Toshiba's notebook lineup. Some have more ram, hard drive space and different CPU processors. The one I got has a 320 GB hard drive and 4 gigs of ram, more than enough for what I need. Besides I always utilize an external HD for large files to keep the clutter to a minimum.
I put this Toshiba through a daily gauntlet of web surfing, writing, photo editing, and high definition video editing and it never has even a twitch. Can't say that for my old HP that was a finicky pain in the ass and had to re-boot it at least two to three times a day. This Toshiba I can leave on with no problems what so ever.
The Toshiba Satellite L505-GS5035 frequently visits popular WiFi spots on my daily journey and snaps a web connection in a blink of an eye. The only gripe I have is the screen has a lot of glare if bright light situations and makes the display hard to see, so I need to crank up the brightness. Just use the keys "FN" simultaneously with "F6,F7" to adjust the brightness levels so you can see what you are doing.
The things I really like is the keyboard, it has full keys including the numbers on the side. It makes my typing speed pretty fast as I am able to blast through an article in a matter of minutes or navigate Microsoft Word fast and accurate, always perfect. And the screen is large, 15.6 widescreen style so that makes it easy to run 2 things at once side by side. An example would be half the screen a web browser and the other half a notepad.
So far this Toshiba L505-GS5035 has handled everything I could throw at it including heavy downloads and watching high definition video with no freezing up or anything, pretty amazing for a laptop under $600. And those heavy loading flash based websites choked with advertising is no match, the L505 handles it beautifully.
