5 Things That Will Dramatically Increase Your Odds Of Dying Young

A healthy life style is not so difficult to achieve. But many people seem confused by what can hurt them.

So we'll say it another way and maybe leave you less confused.

Here are 5 things you can do to insure you DON"T "live long and prosper" as they say in Star Trek.

1. Eat lots of sugar. It's worse than many other things you could do to yourself. Eating sugar, in all its many guises will kill you as quickly as smoking. Insulin resistance and diabetes are deadly, likely to shorten your life as much a 5 years, if not more. Plus you'll be really sick a lot before you succumb. Blindness and/or amputations are SO fun! Also, many people who are diabetic also lose mental ability too. Soft drinks are one of the sources of excess simple sugars in diets. Drink lots of revved up canned drinks and latte if you want to be fat and sick.

2. Get fat. Yes, just being overweight is really bad for you. People who are fat have higher rates of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, pregnancy complications, circulatory problems, joint problems and arthritis, etc. And that does not count how you feel when people say mean things about your excess weight.

3. Eat plenty of junk food. It has 2 ill effects that will sneak up on you. First junk food has a lot of sugar, fat and salt, all of which are bad for you. But, second, and worse still, junk foods lack nutrition. Can something that lacks nutrition be called a "food"? And what's the point of eating something that has no nutrients? You end up both starving and fat. Nearly everything at the grocery store that you see in the aisles between fresh vegetables and the meat counter is basically junk food. Those chips, cookies and frozen dinners have lots of chemicals and nearly NO nutrients or dietary fiber to clean out your guts (cancer!). So just fill up on nothing but chemicals and calories!

4. Smoke cigarettes. Smoking causes lots of health problems, everything from COPD to cancer. Plus you can make the people who live with you sick, too.

5. Take drugs. Lots of illegal drugs can make you sick or kill you. So can many prescription drugs. It might be quick, too. Many people who die young go from drug overdoses.

6. Don't get any exercise. Did you know people are ending up in nursing homes because they lack the strength to care for themselves at home? And a growing number of them are obese and young. No exercise is like aging early, the opposite of the famous "Fountain of Youth". You, too, can be old before your time if you avoid exercise.

What's the biggest surprise is how many of these things are under your personal control. You can help yourself have a longer, healthier life by NOT doing these things.
