Can A Vitamin Deficiency Be Fatal? - Just How Much Do We Need?

What is considered to be the correct amount of Vitamin B12 a person should consume each Day?

The recommended daily dosage of vitamin b12 varies from person to person but here is a general guideline:

Recommended Dosage per day for Vitamin B-12

Dosages are in micrograms (mcg) for vitamin B12

Infants (0-3 years) - 0.3-0.7 mcg

Children (4-6 years) - 1 mcg

Children (7-10 years) - 1.4 mcg

Adolescent and adult males and females - 2 mcg

Pregnant females - 2.2 mcg

Breast-feeding females - 2.6 mcg

Most people can consume enough b12 through regular diet without the need for vitamin b12 injections/shots. If you are concerned that you have a vitamin b12 deficiency it is extremely important that you consult your Doctor as it could lead to more health problems.

Is vitamin B12 deficiency considered life threatening? Can I boost it without seeing a Doctor?

A b12 deficiency can be life threatening as vitamin b12 is needed for numerous important processes within our bodies. A lack of vitamin b12 can cause multiple other complications and can develop pernicious anaemia, therefore it is important to go and see your Doctor to get checked out.

If you have a vitamin b12 deficiency it is difficult to raise your b12 levels without a vitamin b12 shot, as your body isn't absorbing b12 the way it should. Therefore you need to go see your Doctor ASAP.

Does Vitamin B12 raise metabolism? Help Burn Fat?

It can raise your metabolism which can have a knock on effect which helps you burn fat more easily; however taking vitamin b12 shots shouldn't be considered a fast way to lose weight. Our bodies can only take so much b12 and any extra will just be disposed of as waste. Therefore while b12 injections can give a boost in energy, this will only occur if your body has enough room to store and use it.

Can I give my Pet Vitamin B12 Shots?

I have known people who have given their pet's vitamin b12, however this was only after a visit to the vet. It's never a good idea to start prescribing things for your pets, without first discussing it with a vet who can both examine and properly prescribe any medication.

This is just a snippet of information on vitamin B12, which will hopefully answer a few questions you may have had. As always I am not a medical professional, so please if you have any health issues please go and see your Doctor.
