While it's in most people's nature to help others, this type of career may not be for everyone. In this case you could work for the county that you live in as part of their child and family services team. You may even help broken families by finding foster care for neglected children. There are numerous different responsibilities a child and family social worker may have. You could also work in a school. Most schools have social work jobs available. A school social worker would help under privileged children find the right path. They may help set up tutoring sessions to assist with their education or even just be there to listen to a troubled child.

Another area you can find numerous social work jobs is in the medical field. There are always positions for social workers to help with substance abuse treatment. People with chemical dependencies need them to help them get back on their feet. You could be a youth drug counselor and help young adults stay away from drugs and alcohol. If your interest is the medical field you can also find social work jobs in nursing homes. Social workers are always needed to help elderly people receive the proper care or even just arrange transportation.

Keep in mind that social workers often times are on call for emergencies, so you may not have a regular 40 hour work week. Overtime may be needed and is often required. This is another reason social work jobs are available everywhere.
