subject: The Relationship Of Calcium With Weight Loss [print this page]

When the word weight loss pops-up in to a conversation there are many kinds of diets that are recommended. But recent studies reveal that dietary calcium is indeed relative to weight loss and it has already caught the attention of many dieters. It is said to induce fat loss, reverse the cycle of weight gain, prevent fat storage, increase metabolism and reduce the possibility of kidney stones and PMS symptoms. Did I fail to mention that products that supply calcium are also cheap?

In the beginning animals tests were made placing such species under a high sucrose and high fat diet. A low calcium diet was also performed and for all the mentioned type of diets obesity was the result. Then they started inducing a high-calcium diet and amazingly, subjects have reversed the cycle from weight gain to weight loss. Experts explained that calcium can suppress body elements that increases fatty build-up.

On humans, obese patients were simply asked to include two cups of yogurt on their daily diet so as to increase the level of calcium that could lower the rate of blood pressure. They were not required to make any changes on their diet or physical activities. Throughout the experiment they retained their usual activities plus the yogurt. In a years time more than 10 pounds was put off their weight.

Many health experts recommend making sure of sufficient supply of nutrients in order to stay healthy. But it does not say which particular food type should it be so as to include weight loss among its benefits.

There is a long list of benefits one may derive from calcium aside from the basic knowledge that it is essential for strong bones and teeth. Calcium also helps for the muscles efficiency, regulating the heart, maintain the nervous system healthy and metabolize which meant fat burn.

Many foods can supply calcium including yogurt, cheese, milk, ice cream, baked beans and other dried legumes, dried figs, broccoli, most dark-green leafy vegetables, and soft fish bones like those in canned salmon. But for calcium sources that could induce weight loss the selection is different. Dieters mostly need sea foods such as clams, oysters, sardines with bones and shrimps. Some nuts are also good sources including almonds, brazil nuts and hazelnuts. Others are tofu, hard cheese, ricotta and parmesan.

It is important to have a daily dose of these food choices particularly because according to survey almost 90 per cent of adults and more than 50% of children are lacking their RDI or recommended daily intake of calcium.

Aside from calcium intake, exercise is still the best tandem with this food choice. It can aid in achieving maximum weight loss and even maintain a healthy weight. And because one of the benefits from calcium is having healthy muscles, bones and heart, people who are engaged in a very active lifestyle should take calcium as priority particularly that calcium can be secreted through sweat. Hence, replenishing those lost calcium is vital.
