Telling the truth all the time
Telling the truth all the time

Truth means a genuine and exact fact about a particular issue. This contrasts what is invented or "cooked up".

Telling the truth entails one being able to say and defend something that one is really sure of.Is it possible to be sure of a thing and it is later found to be false? Before one could be said to have spoken the truth, a series of evidence should be available. Telling the truth sometimes could cost one's life as it may be a vehement issue. It may also cost one's properties at times.

Despite the fact that truth is a very good moral virtue, people still find it difficult to tell the truth. Biblically, it is common that telling the truth brings about persecution because it is widely believed that the world hates "the light". "The light" in this context is nothing but the truth.

There is a common saying that truth is bitter. It is something that lacks every appearance of sweetness in today's world. In a market situation, truth doesn't sell. It makes a poor sale and its seller often times go bankrupt. The supposed heir of a seller who sells the truth is unarguably left with nothing bequeathed him. A path where someone who believes in the truth treads, no one wants to follow suit as it is full of thorns and dangerous predators who care for nothing. Those who move around with the single emblem of truth are many a time stigmatised as people who do not know what is in vogue. These explain why people find it difficult to be associated with the truth. The world hates every appearance of what is true. People find it difficult to tell the truth in tense situations. Many are afraid of losing their lives and properties for the sake of the truth.

Sometimes, the fact contained in what is true may not be appealing to many. It may be very unsatisfactory and annoying that many will not like to listen to it. People may get offended while one tells the truth. Just like a caring mother advising her daughter not to be wayward and not give in to the deceit of men, but instead of the daughter to accept this truth, she may get offended at her mother.

The truth is not cowardly. However, it is easy to make a fortune from lying. Telling the truth could be difficult, we have a number of people known for their truthfulness and honesty. A typical example is the biblical Stephen who defended what he believed to be true to a point of death. Jesus Christ made it known that our "yea" should always be "yea" and our "nay" always be "nay". Another person famous for standing by what he believed to be true is Nelson Rohlilala Mandela of South Africa. He stood by by his belief to the point of being denied his freedom. This being the climax of what happened to him for decades. Obafemi Awolowo of Nigeria also stood for the truth. He was known to be among those who fought for Nigeria's independence. He was a nationalist to a fault. He was known for his honest reputation and idiosyncrasy in the fight for a better living for all his countryfolks.

We should be firm, exact and truthful in whatever we do because it will surely pay off someday. It is therefore advised that one should make telling the truth one's habit. We should, at all cost, tell the truth whenever the need arises. It is a determining factor to how successful one would be. Not only schoolkids should be truthful.Teachers and everybody in general are called to wine and dine at the dining table of truth. People who are truthful and firm are treated with respect while the deceitful are treated with scorn and derision. We will make the world a better place if we are all ready to tell the truth all the time.

Finally, may your road be rough as you tell the truth all the time!
