I can still see the photographs of lung samples that we were shown in school the disgusting black smoker's lung as opposed to the healthy pink of the non-smoker's sample. That certainly did not stop my peers from starting up smoking, but many years later they all suddenly count the costs and we look at our young children, wishing we hadn't put ourselves in danger for their sakes. Did you know that smoking-related illnesses apparently claim the lives of more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, homicide and illegal drugs altogether?
Your stop smoking plan should include reasons of why you need to give up in the first place. Although you have to remember that they are not nagging' and have got a vested interest in your health. No need then to rebel against them and feel like you are being forced to give up smoking indeed, it shouldn't be viewed as giving up' anything! Rather getting back the wasted years! Next you should establish how you want to go about smoking cessation. It is a good idea to write a list of the reasons why you want to stop smoking. Have it on you all the time so that you can look at it again when you are tempted to have a cigarette.

You need to be aware of what triggers your craving to smoke. Is it being sociable, or when you get excited or stressed? Once you've pinpointed the trigger, try to keep yourself away from it for at least the first two weeks. Obviously you can't always avoid every situation, so try to find an alternative to having a cigarette. Try doing ten sit-ups instead! Maybe not on the way home from work, as the other commuters might get alarmed! Certainly try it if you are sitting around at home.
Good luck with your stop smoking planand do not be too hard on yourself if you slip up.
