NOVI SAD, Serbia (AP) -The draw Thursday for the Davis Cup first-round series between Serbia and India to be played on indoor hard court at the Spens Center (doubles and reverse singles pairings subject to change)
Davis Cup champion Serbia has split its opening singles matches with India in the first round of the Davis Cup.
After winning Davis Cup last year in Belgrade against France, Serbian team played from 4th to 6th March in Novi Sad against Indian Davis Cup team.
Player who scored the 3rd and winning point in finals last year, Viktor Troicki currently ranked 18th on ATP list opened the 8th finals against Rohan Boppana and won 3:2 in sets ( 6:3, 6:3, 5:7, 3:6, 6:3) scoring the first point for Serbian team.
Although Viktor was not very satisfied with his game and surprised by the resist from the Indian, he had control of the match after winning first two sets. In other two sets which Boppana won he served better, scored alot of Ace services and when he gave Viktor a chance for break point, he didnt manage to use it well.
In 5th and final set, Viktor got his game back and easily won the set and finally the match.
Afterall even his game was not perfect he won the first point giving advantage to Serbian team and thats all what counts.
After winning the first match Viktor played the opening match on Sunday hoping to score 3rd point for Serbian team leading them to quater-finals.
Somdev Devvarman downed Janko Tipsarevic 7-5, 7-5, 7-6 (3) to pull India even Friday.
Tipsarevic was the star of Serbia's 3-2 win in last year's final over France. But he was clearly off his game against an opponent ranked 629th.
He scored the winning point against Somdev Derveman winning 3:0 in sets (6:4, 6:2, 7:5) Viktor easily won the first set by breaking Devermans serve and winning the set. In 2nd one he gave his opponent only 2 games, again easily breaking his serve and keeping his one going strong.
Thre was great tennis from both players in 3rd set and after 2hours and 43minutes Viktor used his first match point leading Serbian team to victory.
In quater-finals Serbian team will play against Sweeden from 8th to 10thJune.
