Social Media How-To
Social Media How-To

Facebook seems to change a lot. Often times without warning us at all. And while, for the most part, the changes are positive, it's infinitely infuriating because you are rarely alerted to what exactly was changed, or what new features were implemented. All and all this is a poor job on facebook's part, but if you are a billion dollar company that has it's own movie I suppose you are allowed to do as you like. However, since last I checked, this feature is still implemented in the way I am going to explain to you now- which brings me to the main point of this post:

How to Create a Facebook Group:

Now I know a majority of you probably already know how to do this, but I am planning on doing a series of social media how-to's and this is just one of many to come. I'd like to build a resource for people who are searching for these, and maybe in future articles I can lend some unique tips and insights into various aspects of social media that one might not gather from other resources. Anyways, without further adeux, here's how to do it! How to create a facebook group!

Now, everyone remembers the peanut butter and jelly sandwich exercise, right? You write down instructions on how to create a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and the teacher or presenter or what have you, would follow those instructions exactly. So if you forgot to write down "open peanutbutter jar" then the person acting the instructions wouldn't be able to complete the sandwich. It was all about providing exhaustive instructions or miscommunication or something... I don't totally remember the point of the exercise, but I did take to heart part of it's lesson. Exhaustive instructions- to a degree. SO. Before you do ANYTHING. You need to:

Create a facebook account. You can't create a facebook group without a facebook account, dingus.

If you have a facebook account. Log in to it.

There you go

Now, locate the "search" bar on your facebook homepage. It should be near the top of the web page.

Type in the word "groups" and press enter

The first result should be the groups app. Click that.

In the new box that appears you need to fill out the information for the group - The name and members. If you don't fill out members then, you can fill them out later.

Don't forget to make sure the privacy setting is adjusted to your preference.

Confirm the submission and boom you've created the group.

Now to describing it. On the right of the webpage, locate the "Edit Group" button

Describe it properly so those who might search for the group could find it.

On the right, locate the "profile picture" link, so that you can upload a picture for your group. This will act as a sort of photo identity, so it should be a logo or something easily recognizable and representative of the group you created.

Bing bang boom. You have a group. Remember, you can always add more members from your friends list by clicking the "add friends to group" link which can be found on the right side of the webpage under the "members' area.

The real draw to this is that you can organize people in your friends list and extended friends so that they may receive messages on a different news feed. More direct. Much like the way targeting intelligence organizes influencers. If you'd like to be able to know who the top influencers are in your vertical then you need targeting intelligence. Targeting intelligence gives you the competitive awareness you need to track ROI for your social media campaigns, out maneuver competitors online, and obsoletes the necessity for guess-marketing. Know who to market to, learn tomorrow's lesson today. Switch to targeting intelligence.
