These two factors are important because you have to have content to even get on Google and keywords are going to get you to the top of the page.
You can not just have a website advertising what you're selling and expect for your site to be on the front page of Google --it just doesn't work like that. There has to be some value behind your site. The value is in the content and this is important because people are on Google searching for just that. They are getting on Google looking for content that is going to offer them a solution to their problem. So if you want the Google bots to be your friend you're going to have to provide some value to gain the rank you are looking for. This goes hand and hand with keyword optimization. You can have a massive amount of content with a whole bunch of words that no one is typing into Google and that is going to get you nowhere. You need to make sure you do some keyword research so you know what people are looking for so you can provide that valuable content for them.

If you want to be ranked high you have to put in the proper effort to get there and that is the same way you have to be if you want to reach success.
