My friend Tony Florenzo of theOakley Group (a private venture capital firm) told me about a possible deal or scuffle withGoogle for one of their newest partner projects. It seems that Google wants every potential money maker that they can get their hands on. The buzz around town is that they are working overtime to gobble up as many new Tech and Advertising based companies that they can.
They wantedGroupon, they wouldn't sell so they launched a copy to compete with them. This time, it's about a brand new, not yet out of the box company called:Media Thrasher. It's seems like a straight forward concept but yet it's very creative- Media Thrasher is a service that sends out various forms of media at the same time. According to their website, they send out the following: 1.A Press Release 2.An Email Blast 3.A URL Submission Campaign 4.They acquire yourFacebook Page thousands of Fans 5.They acquire yourTwitter account thousands of Followers Oh, and they even give you Free Blog Advertising depending on the package purchased. They do all of this based on already created "Packages" or you can "Build your own". The pricing seems reasonable for all that you are receiving, it seems. When I visited the site, I can tell that their web development team is still working out some of the bugs- as the check out process is not yet active. It also appears as if they are developing a "Gift Card" concept to go along with the service. However, I'm told that they are taking customers and that Volkswagen, Humana, and the Pavilions have all reported rave reviews. Media Thrasher was developed by a Marketer out of South Florida namedWhilly Bermudez. He is a Marketing Consultant with his own firm-Whilly Bermudez Media. By Florenzo's account and some research, it seems Bermudez is one of the best known marketers who has done a solid job of creating his ownself brand.
Media Thrasher provides a unique service that according to research by the Oakley Group- does not exist anywhere else. They would not comment about patents or other proprietary information. It's so early on that I have to wonder about how interested is "GREEDY" Google really is or if Media Thrasher would even want to sell over its concept this prematurely. The only thing that is certain is that the company looks promising and I'm not saying that only becausethey'reusing the 'Back to the Future'- Delorean with the siteimagery.
I will monitor the situation and write a follow-up as soon as more is known.
