Sleep Deprivation And Its Ill-Effects

Not getting enough rest can be difficult on the body because this time is to help repair the body and provide refreshment. The body truly does suffer when they don't get enough sleep. When a person does not get enough sleep then the body will not heal appropriately. It is suggested that adults get at least seven hours of res every night and often consider nine hours to be the best. Nevertheless, most people don't get that amount of rest nightly. Everyone has their own reasons from work to watching TV. Many may not even think they are deprived - but they are indeed suffering deprivation as they have not slept.

When looking deeper into the causes of this deprivation there are many reasons. Some of these reasons include:

* Nightmares

* Insomnia

* Work

* Stress

* Family responsibilities

* New baby

* Depression

* Worry

* Time change

* Sleep disorder

When suffering from deprivation there can be serious side effect such as fatigue, memory loss, irritability, slurred speech, blurred vision, tremors and hypertension. A person's health, concentration and productivity can be affected. Accidents can happen and mistakes can be made when someone is sleep deprived. It is even dangerous to drive while in this condition. Reflexes slow and people can start to hallucinate. It really can be like driving drunk if you drive deprived. The physiological symptoms include paranoia and delusions as well.

Being in such a condition can cause a person to even have trouble in their personal and social life. If you have not slept you will have less energy, you will be more prone to sickness as well as taking longer to heal and have weight issues. When you have not slept, a person searches for ways to stay awake such as eating sugar, caffeine, tobacco, carbohydrates and even taking drugs - anything to give them energy. These are unhealthy practices. Serious sleep deprivation can also lead to such health issues as diabetes. All the symptoms of sleep deprivation can lead into serious issues if it continues. The body really needs time to repair and heal itself and sleep is meant to do this.

It is important to find a way to get more sleep, such as relaxation techniques. Many find exercise also helps promote sleeping.
