Today we are going to discuss about different parts which makes up a computer system. Now we call computer a sytem because ,just like any system , all the different parts of the computer work together to accomplish a common task.Although the whole computer is made up of hardware(the physical parts) and software ( instructions or programs)
but in this post we are only going to talk about the major hardware parts of the computer.
Motherboard
The motherboard is the largest circuit board in the case through which all the major components of the p.c are attached. It is called so because it is the heart of the PC ,since every component is connected to it and hence is the backbone of the computer. It is home for the processor chip, pci slots, and memory.
CPU (Central Processing Unit)
The CPU or the processor is simply the brain of the computer i.e it controls the computer and does all the thinking, operational and executional work.Processor speed is measured in MegaHertz(Mhz) and GigaHertz(Ghz). The speed of your processor's will often determine the overall speed of your computer.
Memory
Memory is simply an area where data can be stored, retrieved and manipulated. This is where information is temporarily stored for cpu to use and manipulate before storing on the secondary storage device such as the hard disk. Also known as RAM (Random access memory) it is measured in megabytes or gigabytes , which is storage capacity, It has to be fast because it connects directly to the microprocessor.
Hard disk
Hard disk is the part of your computer where information is stored for later retrieval. All the information you put on your computer like documents, pictures, email messages, and programs are here. But unlike memory, the hard drive stores information even after the power is turned off.Although they are cheap than memory but they are very slow.
Monitor
A monitor is an output device used for displaying information from the computer in the visual form using text and graphics. The different types of monitor are CRT,LCD,TFT etc.
Keyboard
A keyboard is an input device for entering information into the computer with the help of inbuild keys.
Mouse
The mouse is an input device for navigating and interacting with the computer using a pointing cursor.
Graphics card
Graphics cards are also known as video cards or video adapters and they're responsible for putting the images generated by the computer onto a monitor.
Ports
These simply are the plugs and sockets on the back on your computer. The most commonly used ports now are USB(Universal serial bus) ports.
CD ROM or DVD ROM Drives
These are secondary storage devices through which we can read the data srored on the cd or dvd.If you have a CD-RW drive or DVD-RW, you can store your own information on these.
Modem
Modem(short for modulater and demodulater) is used for connecting your computer to the Internet. It is a device that sends and receives computer information over a telephone line or high-speed cable.
