Vereeniging. Saturday, February 26th 2011, was an unusual busy day at Catherine Robson Children's Home when a group of more than 50 individuals showed up to start with necessary revamping and renovations at this establishment. This marked the first day of many to come and was a huge success. The Project Catherine Robson Children's Home initiative was established by a group of individuals who have undertaken to systematically upgrade the children's home to make it a happy and safe environment for the inhabitants to grow up in. The Project will also aim to uplift these children and help them to reach their full potential in order to provide a better future for them.
What started out as something small, grew into an enormous effort by individuals and sponsors who have generously donated their time, effort, materials and money to make this wonderful day possible. Mathys Thompson, project director, says: "We are so thankful and humbled by the blessings we have received so far for our first project at Catherine Robson's Children's Home. It is amazing what we can do for others less fortunate than ourselves if we combine our efforts! We thank each sponsor and individual for their efforts thus far, it has made a wonderful difference."
The children's home is now equipped with a brand new, colourful playground and although it is not completely finished yet, the difference is significant. The toddler's home also had a revamp on the day and all the playground equipment received a fresh coat of paint and a new trampoline, jungle gym and playhouse was also donated. Five new trees also found a home at this establishment. The boys' dormitory, which had urgent needs, received new duvets, curtains and linens and the bathroom was equipped with new towels and other accessories by very generous sponsors. The girls' dormitory, lapa, play court and some necessary plumbing are all in line for upgrades in the near future. It was truly heart-warming to see everyone's enthusiasm and positivity on the day and even the children gave a hand where needed.
Local and national sponsors like Bubbilee, Carnival Foods, CEF Manufacturing, CEF Personnel, Combrinck and Associates, Dawn Sanitaryware, Dischem Foundation, Doctor Terine Rademan, Du Plessis Sand, Electroware Industrial Suppliers, Elingua Editorial Services, Everite Building Supplies, Flexilube, Gauteng Stainless Steel, Genlux Lighting, Gwen's Fabrics, Hardware Inc., Helmen Engineering, Hot Pot Paint and Hardware, ISC Group, Integra Multi Franchise, Jungle Gym World, Magic Lawns, McKinnon Chain, Midcor Powder Coating, National Ceramic Industries, Phakisa Labour Consultants, Plant Pool, Sasol, Samcor, Scaw Metals, Sterkinekor, Top Paints, Trampoline Man, Vereeniging Police Reservists, Vitro Factory Shop and numerous individuals made very generous donations to the project. It was a fun-filled day, which left a smile on the faces of the children and in the hearts of the volunteers. Everyone is looking forward to the next project.
