If you need an Easter math activity, then this may be just the one that you are looking for. In this activity, the kids practice adding or multiplying or doing both. It is called Egg Values and once you have cut out a few egg shapes from different colored paper, you are ready to go. This activity can be used at home or is also ideal as an Easter activity for the classroom.
Getting Ready
To set up this Easter math activity you will need five or six different colored papers. Cut our five or six egg shapes from each color. Now take one egg of each color and write a different number on each. You could choose 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The number on the egg will be the value of all of the eggs in that color. If 2 is on the blue egg, then all blue eggs are worth 2. You will need to display your eggs where they can be seen and your Easter math activity is ready.
How to Play
To play Egg Values, you simply display some of the colored eggs and ask the kids to calculate the value. To practice addition, you might put out one green, one pink, one blue and one purple egg. Next ask the children to calculate the value of these eggs. They simply add the value of each egg to get the answer. You can even have a prize for the first person to show you the correct answer. Of course a chocolate Easter egg is the perfect prize for this Easter math activity.
To practice multiplication, put out several eggs in the same color. If that color is worth six and you put out six eggs, then the value will be thirty-six.
Advanced Version 1
A more advanced version involves putting out several eggs of each color and having the children calculate the value of this cluster. You might put out four pink eggs, five green eggs, two purple eggs and two yellow eggs. Next the kids then have to calculate the value for each color and add these values together.
Advanced Version 2
In this version you can use higher numbers on each of the eggs. You could try two digit numbers, three digit number or decimal numbers. The game can then be played in the same way with students calculating the values with these higher numbers.
Play as a Competition
This can be played as a competition with points being awarded for each correct answer. It can also be a competition between two players or two teams with a point being awarded or a prize being given to the first player or team that answers correctly.
