Another work week has come and gone, it is a weekend morning and you need clothes washed before Sunday evening so, that there will be something clean to wear to work on Monday. You just finished washing a load of clothes, threw them into the dryer and after hearing the dryer's timer announcing that the clothes are finally dry, you discover they are still soaking wet after waiting for a full hour. Before pounding on the dryer in frustration and demanding that it work by some miracle lets identify what the problem maybe.

Before doing anything with the dryer, make sure to disconnect the power source of the dryer and if it is gas fueled make sure to close the gas-supply valve to shut off the gas supply.

If the drum to the dryer is spinning but, not producing any heat this could be the result of any one of the following items that have gone bad...

1. Check the circuit breaker and fuse

2. Temperature switch

3. Thermostat

4. Heating coils

5. Timer

When the drum of the dryer isn't spinning but, the motor is running, this is usually caused by a broken belt and simply needs to be replaced. Otherwise, the roller or even the pulleys are worn out and need to be replaced.

There are many different factors that will cause your dryer from not working at all. Check to ensure the power source of the dryer is connected properly or it could be either the timer, thermostat or terminal block are faulty and need to be replaced.

Just like you do with your other appliances, always do preventive maintenance to help keep your dryer working for years.

1. Always clean the lint filter between loads.

2. Replace the lint filter if it should ever get torn.

3. Once every year, open up the dryer cabinet to remove any lint.

4. Once every year, check the belt for any cracks.

5. Never leave clothes or other items piled up on top of the dryer.

6. Make sure there is plenty of space around the dryer.
