It is estimated that for every person cheating in a relationship there are two more that cheat online - an activity often referred to as cyber cheating. Is Internet cheating really cheating. If you think so and you think your spouse or lover is engaging in cyber cheating here is how to quickly catch it and put a stop to it.
How to catch and stop Internet cheating or cyber cheating
Many people don't think cheating on the computer on the Internet is really cheating because while it is only online the two people never meet and make physical contact.
At the very least however you would have to consider cheating on the Internet emotional cheating or an emotional affair. If you are engaging in this type of an affair ask yourself this question -- if your significant other were to walk into the room while you were engaging in cyber cheating would you have no problem letting your boyfriend or girlfriend see what you are doing or would you quickly turn off the computer and hide it?
If you would hide it and keep it from your spouse then it is cheating and it is wrong and at least unconsciously you know it.
If you are getting online and getting your emotional needs for connection and intimacy met by a member of the opposite sex then you are cheating your real partner of this connection and intimacy. An even bigger danger however is not what is but what will be or could be. In other words it's a thin line to be cheating on the computer and engaging in flirtatious and romantic behavior online to stepping over that thin line and actually meeting the person for real. In that sense you could say cyber cheating is a 'gateway drug' for real cheating.
If you think there isn't a huge percentage of cyber affairs that transcend into real affairs you are sadly mistaken and ignorant of the facts. In my psychology practice I can't tell you how many hundreds of people in just the past five years have come to see me because of infidelity and what to do about it and what percentage of those affairs began on the computer.
