Roll on world war 3 - the lunatics have taken control of the asylum

BY Stanley Collymore

THE SELF-STYLED NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LIBYA, which frankly is neither national nor a properly constituted body remotely deserving of the name council, but consists largely of a motley crew of self-serving renegades, traitors and carpet bagging opportunists of the worst sort that one could find anywhere and led by Libya's equally revolting, defected - some would rationally argue defective - Justice Minister who has opportunistically seized the main chance to put himself centre stage, and in hopeful anticipation and with the west's backing become the next Libyan dictator well equipped to lavishly feather his own nest and those of his family and friends, while at the same time obsequiously doing whatever is asked of him, and particularly against the interests of the Libyan people, by his puppet-masters.

And what better way to roll out his credentials and ingratiate himself with these perspective puppet-masters, and to do so while Libya is in turmoil, than by telling them what they want to hear; lyingly and personally implicating Colonel Gaddafi in the Lockerbie bombing when any intelligent, objective person knows he wasn't. Ian Huntley is a convicted paedophile but that doesn't mean he's responsible for every act of paedophilia that has ever happened or is about to take place in the UK simply because of what he is; in the same way that Tony Blair, George W. Bush and Henry Kissinger as universally regarded as mass murderers who have committed ghastly crimes against humanity but I don't think that anyone in his or her right is, in the immediate future, going to witness these loathsome characters with the same indecent haste in which the politically motivated and some would say irrelevant International Criminal Court (ICC) has jumped on the Colonel Gaddafi bandwagon to have him indicted for crimes against humanity do the same relative to Messrs Blair, Bush, Kissinger or any other so-called western leader for that matter. But in doing what he did this Libyan rat deserting what he sees as a sinking ship is counting on the west's own paranoia and suspicion of African and Middle Eastern people and their liberation movements per se concomitant with their insatiable greed to see him through and award him much needed Brownie points in the pursuits of his own avaricious propensities, self-aggrandisement and personal political ambitions.

For if he's such a stalwart champion and protector of probity and the rule of law why has he waited until now, over twenty years later, to level crass, patently malicious and unconvincing allegations against someone that he's been closely associated with for a considerable period of time and, furthermore, voluntarily served until just recently as a very senior minister the Minister of Justice no less in Gaddafi's regime? Would it not have been more appropriate, honest and principled at the time of Gaddafi's alleged mass murder of those Lockerbie passengers and those killed on the ground for this paragon of virtue from the deserts of Libya to have promptly resigned his government job, quit the government, terminate his association with Colonel Gaddafi and those he was in league with and courageously tell the world what actually happened, sparing the families and close friends of those that had died the needless trauma they later suffered as they despairingly demanded answers about who was responsible for the killing of their loved ones; not forgetting the genuine possibility of preventing the vast sums of money spent of the sham trial that followed?

This wolf in sheep's clothing did none of this because he's lying and is a dishonest bastard with a vivid and malevolent imagination more apt for fiction novels than the world of reality which the rest of us like to believe we live in, but who nevertheless fits the profile admirably of all prospective dictators; and in those relevant contexts projecting himself as the New Face of Libya along with his exaggerated and ludicrous posturing as the saviour of Libya is really quite risible were they not set against the bloody backdrop of the confused and dissembling chaos currently taking place in that country.

My question therefore is: should any intelligent and impartial person trust such stinking filth, and ought the west to throw its lot in with them if as it claims, and this assertion should have a serious health warning attached to it, it is genuinely interested in the humanitarian, social, gender-issue, political and particularly the democratic well-being of the people of the long suffering, disposed and marginalized populations of North Africa and the Middle East and not simply the oil and other natural resources that fatefully lie in their countries? My explicit answer is No! What's yours?
