What are Google's New Algorithm Changes?
What are Google's New Algorithm Changes?

Do not be too alarmed if your website(s) have lost a bit of rank due to Google's most recent algorithm changes. This is natural and Google stated it affected about 12% of search engine results.

Now on the other hand I would be quite worried if your website has dropped off the rankings completely, as in you've gone to page ten and beyond and it's just not there! This would mean that you are probably aware that you have used a lot of "blackhat methods" to increase rankings through shady backlinks and more. Possibly your running an autoblog or scrape scripts that are pulling duplicate or near duplicate content from similar websites and Google has punished you for doing that. This new change in Google's algorithm is focused on increasing the weight of quality UNIQUE content.

Changes in Google's Algorithm:

* More weight toward UNIQUE content

* Increase weight for backlinks coming from Social or Web 2.0 sites

* Decrease weight of backlinks in general

* Lower weight of backlinks that are non-relevant to the site's material/category/market

* Penalize sites that have used "blackhat" backlinking methods

Now what do we mean "penalize blackhat backlinking methods"?

* Google is adding up the non-relavant links, such as those from profile, blog comments, directories, etc

* If it isn't relevant or "natural", your going to lose the amount of weight for that link

* If you have many links of this nature, your site is going to be penalized

* They want to see a diversity of anchor text on backlinks also

* Duplicate content penalties are the highest ever, get it OFF your site and reformat your content/titles/tags immediately

What does this mean for the future?

* Xrumer/Scrapebox/etc are still useful tools IF they are used with relevant/industry specific sites

* DO NOT go blasting thousands of links quickly

* Focus on natural and relevant link building, it WILL pay off

* Content, Content, CONTENT

So let's get re-focused on building our websites for the long term with quality information for our viewers. Starting with on-page search engine optimization, then quality link exchanging or content writing, article marketing, and intelligent social media distribution. It's not going to be terribly easy, but it will still reward you. Google is focusing on content, but still gives weight to many of the SEO task that webmasters do everyday. So keep plucking away at the backlinks and such just make sure you have quality AND unique content to back up those efforts on your website.
