Feline Hair Loss

Feline hair loss is something that can cause discomfort for your cat and a lot of worry for you as the owner. This is something that can be caused by a number of factors, some of which can be relatively simple and other that are more complicated or serious.

If your cat starts to lose hair you need to make sure that you get it checked out as the vet will need to determine the cause of the hair loss. It could be something as simple as a parasite infestation that can cause itching and hair loss, which can be quickly treated. On the other hand it might be something far more serious.

Diet

A good diet is an important part of a healthy coat for a cat, so you should make sure that your cat is getting a well balanced diet with plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Don't go for low quality food, as this does not have sufficient nutrition for your cat. Also, bear in mind that salmon and turkey are amongst the best sources of protein for your pet.

Plenty of water is also important for your cat's overall health, so make sure that your pet always has access to fresh drinking water as well as enjoying a healthy and nutritious diet.

Infestations

Infestations are a major cause of hair loss in cats and dogs, and the itching and baldness can leave your pet feeling very sore and uncomfortable. Help your cat to avoid this issue by ensuring that it is fully treated against parasites such as fleas and ticks there are plenty of treatments out there that you can easily administer to minimise the risk of infestation.

Other causes

There are a number of other possible causes of hair loss in cats, and this includes:

Overactive thyroid

Allergies (such as food or environment)

Worms and mange

Bacterial infections

Parasite infestations

Hyperadrenocorticism

Of course, it can be very difficult to determine which of these issues are to blame for your cat's hair loss. However, rather than taking a wait and see approach make sure that you take the cat for a check up so that necessary treatment can be started as quickly as possible.
