Choosing REAL ESTATE BAHAMAS will give the opportunity to explore every angle of the great Piracy years on the islands.

Piracy on the Bahamas lasted 30 years from 1690 to 1720, and the Capital of the Bahamas; Nassau was the hub of activity for the pirates and it was the largest gathering of Pirates ever seen anywhere in the new world. From their harbour they were hidden enough to manage to perform hit and run attacks on the nearby shipping trade routes successfully and they had a stockpile of gold and goods which were stolen, these attracted rogues and undesirables from all over which then formed a thriving community of crime. The Cays and number of islands there were made the Bahamas the perfect place for the pirates to run operations from and around. There were many of the most feared and well known Pirates on the island during these years not least of course Blackbeard. The pirate called Blackbeard was born in 1680 named Edward Teach, he originally came from Bristol and moved to the Caribbean in the early 18th Century to join the privateers he first went to Jamaica and when privateering licences were revoked by the British Blackbeard turned to piracy, he had a ship which he captured from the French and called Queen Anne's Revenge and this is what he converted into his 40 gun flagship. Although Black beard (He renamed himself after his long black whiskers) is one of the most well known and notorious Pirates of all time he was not a terribly successful Pirate, he was always armed with daggers, swords and pistols there is also no evidence of him killing anyone until the day of his own death, Blackbeard had the ability to put fear into anyone he came into contact with as he was a big man who when he went into battle would braid his beard into pig tails and hide slow burning matches behind so that smoke would circle his face which sometimes in itself was enough for the merchant captains to surrender. Blackbeard had 300 men and 4 ships and they were successful in gaining goods from all the ships which they assaulted they did this with Mariners from North Carolina to New England. There were plenty of hideouts for the pirates around North Carolina.

Blackbeard left the Caribbean in 1718 to explore and raid other places like Virginia and the Carolinas, it was here that he performed some of the most ambitious raids of his career one of which was hosting a week long blockade of Charleston Harbour which he hoped to gain medical supplies from and he was once protected by the governor of Carolina who shared his earnings. The Governor of Virginia put a price on the pirates head in retaliation to this and Blackbeard was duped into a battle in 1718 in which he lost his life, legend has it that even after he had been shot and stabbed that Blackbeard still managed to battle on until he died whilst shooting a pistol.

The Legend of the Pirates in and around the Caribbean are fascinating and there is a museum dedicated to the stories, these will be central to your REAL ESTATE BAHAMAS, so why not go and learn what it was to be a pirate and search and explore some of the historic sites where they resided.
