Back in the day I have to admit I was a bit of a handful. Hard to swallow I know, but behind my boyish good looks and playful demeanour there lies the shadowy past of a bit of an idiot. You may well have referred to me back in the late nineties as Chav, or if you were Northern and therefore much more well-informed I would almost certainly have been a Scally.
Ah the good old days And they were indeed, very good days. It has to be said, however, that I'm now fully aware of just how much of a prat I must've looked - strutting around wearing a pair of black Rockport Boots with my Adidas joggers tucked into my socks, oversized Sovereign rings weighing my teenage hands down. Sure the very thought of adorning myself with such a ludicrously yobbish garnish makes me feel like partaking in a spot of projectile vomiting these days, but we were a close-knit group of good mates, we all did as the next man did, and at the time it seemed like the thing to do.
Surely every adolescent social group has their own eccentricities, and what's wrong with that? It's often a good giggle looking back on your teenage years, and if you didn't dress in a way that would make you queasy today, or didn't ever do anything you're now particularly ashamed of then I'm sorry, but you clearly haven't lived.
It's nice when a random event takes you back to your youth, and the other week just such an event occurred. I had seen a pair of boots around Christmas time that I had decided I had to have, you know the feeling I'm sure, and finally after trawling local shops and the internet I stumbled upon what seemed like the last pair in the country. And who would've thought it, but I sit here today, typing merrily away in a brand new pair of Rockports. This time it's the Lux Lodge that's the offending article, and my oh my are they a cracking pair of boots! Solidly built and supremely comfortable they really are the dog's proverbials.
Having found such a fantastic pair of boots has re-kindled my affection for what was once my favourite brand of footwear, and it's been nice to know that Rockport Shoes are making some seriously good-looking shoes. I may have outgrown my joggers, lost my silly rings and fashioned myself a much more acceptable haircut, but there's still a little part of me that hunkers after that feeling that you get when putting on a pair of shoes you've wanted for months for the very first time. Thank you Rockport for making me remember.
