The RAF Regiment, where RA stands for Royal Air-force, is a specialist airstrip defense organization established by Royal Warrant in 1942. The members of this corps are equipped and trained in a 32 week training program. They then are ready to prevent the enemy attack at first instance. This training make the cadets well equipped to reduce the damage caused by the attack. The training not only makes them ready for the attack but also to handle the aftermath of an attack.
The cadets of the RAF Regiment are trained in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear defense. The trainees are equipped with highly developed motor vehicles. The Royal Force instructors also give the training of basic Force Protections like, weapon handling, and first aid. The members of this corps are termed as Rocks' or Rock Apes'. This corps is as good as the men joining it. Both gunners and the officers of this organization are part of an interdependent professional organization putting their best on loyalty, teamwork, physical fitness and determination. The trainees are offered a perfect Air-Force career opportunity coupled with the non contributory pension and excellent rates of pay.
The RAF Regiment comes under command of Air Command and 2 Group. The members are categorized into eight standard squadrons, out of which 3 are Royal Auxiliary Air Force squadrons and 7 are field squadrons. These squadron members are trained to defend the airfields and also the ground based threats. They are skilled to move on Land Rovers, Helicopters and to move on the foot to defend the area. Cadets are outfitted with a range of night vision equipment, surveillance and indirect and direct fire systems. Their work of action depends upon the type of attack they are facing. The patrolling outside the airfield or the mounting defensive also depends upon the line of attack.
The cadets of this organization are so very skilled that they engage an attacking adversary at the earliest opportunity and thus make sure that the air operations are not being disrupted. The field squadrons consist of the Rifle Flights and the weapons Flight, which are equal of the size of an army platoon. These Rifle Flights engage the enemies hand-to-hand. The weapon flight provides the fire support to the rifle flight using the snipers, mortars and machine guns. Usually the RAF Regiment includes only male personnel but Auxiliary Squadrons have female recruits.
