Saving Money In The Winter
Saving Money In The Winter

it has been quite cold this winter, and it has caused us to all go home of an evening, crank the heating up and not leave the house. But come the spring when the bills flood in, the majority of us will be seriously unhappy. The winter started early, with the first flakes of snow falling in November, and frost on the cars this week mean its staying well into March.

So how do you save money when it is so cold? It's pretty easy and some simple steps can help protect your bank balance when the ice thaws.

If you don't go in certain rooms often, then turn the radiators down to low. Remember a few hours before you do use them (like a guest room or dining room) to pop in and turn them a little to take the chill off the room. Likewise, turn lights off when you are not using them. If you use a lot of appliances in the day, make sure that you unplug them at the wall. Appliances can sap electricity even if they are turned off at the base, so this is a good way to save. Just make sure that when you are sleepy in the morning you remember to plug the kettle back in otherwise that morning brew will never happen!

Draw curtains at night to stop the heat seeping out of the cold windows. If you arent fortunate enough to have double glazing then consider putting masking tape around the windows in the winter months to keep the draught out, as if you work full time you will probably not be in in the daylight to appreciate the windows anyway! Move your furniture away from the radiators to let the warmth circulate, and keep inner doors shut to keep each room warm. Consider masking up window edges if you don't have double glazing: you will be surprised how much heat this saves. Do the same with the letterbox.

If you want to save extra pennies then Compare House Insurance online for the best deal, as you can find policies cheaper here.
