Madmaheshwar is the second Kedar in Panch Kedar, Madmaheshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to god Shiva, located in the near by Gaundar village(Ukhimath) of Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand .According to legend, Lord Shiva's navel fell here torn apart by whom else Bhima! When lord Shiva was trying to avoid the Pandavas in the guise of a buffalo, Bhima recognized him with a trick and caught hold of the buffalo. The resultant tug-of-war dismembered the buffalo into six parts. The five places where the five parts fell are the five Kedars . Kedarnath, Madmaheshwar, Tunganath, Rudranath and Kalpeshwar. The sixth part fell in Nepal, and that is the Pashupathinath temple.

Madmaheshwar is basically a delightful little village in the district of Rudraprayag in Uttaranchal, well known in the tourism circuit of Uttarakhand for its peaceful milieu. The place is famous for the Madmaheshwar Temple, a sacred shrine consecrated to Lord Shiva. Dolda Tibba, a picturesque peak is another attraction nearby. Ransi, Raun, Kalimath, Sonprayag and Gaurikund are located in the vicinity of Madmaheshwar. Ukhimath, a notable Hindu site of pilgrimage, famous as the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath, is quite close to this place.

History of Kedarnath:

Kedarnath and its temple exist from the Mahabharata Era when the Pandavas are supposed to have pleased Lord Shiva by doing penance there.Kedarnath is rebuild by Adi Shankracharya.This temple is build by Pandvas in Treta yug, When Pandvas was last age of their life they come on Kedarnath for sight of Lord Shiva , but Lord Shiva did not want to sight Padavas so Lord Shiva Left Kedarnath, After that pandavas make Five Templae in Kedarkhand , also known as Panch Kedar , Kedarnath is first one of panch kedar.
