This is particularly good for individuals with children and families that need to be cared for. You can get your work done and still be there to care for your kids, elderly family members, pets, etc. It's liberating and allows you to blend your life in a way that others can't.
Cons
On the flip side, freelancers must be self-disciplined. You have to go out and find the work, and market your business yourself. You're not working for a company with an advertising budget that you never have to worry about. You are your chief marketer and it's a huge role to play. On top of that, many freelancers find it difficult to have 'work time' when they are at home with their families. As opposed to a 'normal' job, when you work at home, it's very easy to get distracted or to have to pause your work often in order to take care of domestic issues.
There are often costs that freelancers must absorb in order to really be successful in their work - from membership fees at freelancing sites to special trips or special costs. It can be very demanding on a freelancer's finances, especially when you're just getting started. Also, if you don't have the initiative to see yourself through a project, it's safe to assume that your freelancing career won't last very long.
