How to Think Big Without Drowning The Path to Outstanding Success

There it is, in black and white, on top of the goal list, "Become a Millionaire in less than ten years." A very lofty goal and certainly a reasonable one. It's been done many times before. Sadly, that same goal, or similar big objectives, has kept many from ever achieving anything worthwhile. They simply drowned in goals that were too big. Here is why.

People are like computers. They cannot perform what they have not been programmed to do. A person who has been programmed to earn $35,000 a year could not become a millionaire even if his life depended on it. That is not only true where the big goal is money. It also holds true for any goal that is above average.

If a person decided to write a book in Chinese, you would expect that person to learn Chinese first. If a person wanted to pilot a jet plane, you would expect that person to learn how to pilot first. So, if this rule applies in these two cases, why should they not apply to someone who wants to earn an inordinate amount of money or achieve any goal that is bigger and larger than what is commonly seen?

Our education and our culture have programmed us to be able to accomplish what is commonly seen. As soon as we step outside of the beaten path, the mind has to be reprogrammed to be able to accomplish whatever it is that we want to do.

All that to say that we have to "become" before we can "perform." That's called the, "be-do-have" formula. We must be, before we can do, before we can have. We have to become the type of person that can do the things that needs to be done before we can have the things that we want.

Which means that if our goal or objective is to become a millionaire (or any other lofty goal that we may have) we must begin by working on who we are before we even attempt to work on the specific big goal that we have.

It is a well-known fact that if we want to mold any material into a specific shape, the mold has to be created before the molding can be performed. The same thing applies when we are trying to mold or create a specific goal. The mold, which is who we are, has to be created before anything else is attempted.

We are the source; we are the creator of our destiny. In life, as in nature, everything creates after its own kind. Just as an apple tree will not produce oranges, a person with a $35,000 a year mindset will not produce a million dollars.

The question then becomes, "How do we program ourselves to get the things that we want or accomplish whatever extraordinary goal that we are after?" The best and most effective way of doing that is by finding someone what has done it before and emulating that person or persons.

There is nothing new under the sun. Whenever someone performs anything outstanding, it was done by standing on the shoulders of someone who had walked the path before. Knowledge is processional. Huge breakthroughs do not happen overnight. Every new discovery is nothing but a slight extension of what already existed before.

The same applies to whatever outstanding goal that we are after. Someone has already walked the path and cleared the road for us. Now, what needs to be done is to study how those pioneers did it, get under their skin and emulate them. That's not rocket science. It's common sense.
