Some products are better for the environment
With all the hype the surrounds one of the most important issues of the day and indeed our time, I feel much obliged to write this short observation regarding our precious environment.
I noticed this while i was out in a shopping mall recently. I was walking about looking for a new pair of head phones with my wife and as is normally the case we took a small detour into a department store. I have my hobby's, like building modal air planes and gong on hikes of camping trips and as you guessed my wife's hobby is shopping. Even if she does not buy anything that day, just have a look around makes her day. So naturally I wore my cheerful face and walked her around the store.
What I noticed was that, and I'm not an expert in this field, is that next to every different brand of clothing there was a few mannequins. Male mannequins, female mannequins child mannequin, you name it. I'm sure that they boost sales for obvious reasons (if someone could see the clothing on a person they are that much closer to buying it) and then it occurred to me that all of the mannequins were made out of plastic.
Not I'm a militant environmentalist but basic humane decency and respect for out planet does require that one should if possible be more selective about his chooses in business and privet life. So it got to me that such a major department store never considered getting dress forms and replacing all of their mannequins with them.
I don't mean to sound naive regarding the cost but the truth is that I'm not even sure if mannequins are more expensive then dress form. Dress forms do the exact same thing as mannequins but they don't come with the cost of damaging our environment in their process of manufacture. I mean, after all dress form are made out of material and biodegradable synthetic fabric not harmful plastic that pollutes the air when it is made in factory's and cannot be disposed of after it is made.
I simply feel that a store that has to money should not skim off on their responsibility to the community and the world and cough up the extra bucks to keep the planet safe
