Really without trust we have nothing, I am sure you have heard people say that before and it really is very true. So how do you build trust with the people you are around and within the relationship you are pursuing? There are lots of ways for us to destroy trust and I am sure at some point all of us have done things that have caused our loved ones and friends to trust us a little less. So even for people who have been involved with each other for years the concept of rapport is very important. In fact it may be even more important than for the people who have recently gotten together. What is rapport? Basically it is getting someone to like and trust you. It is being on the same wavelength with someone and being in sync with their thoughts and actions. When people always finish each other's thoughts and think similar things they are on the same wavelength so to speak. They have developed a strong rapport between the two of them. How can you learn to build a stronger rapport with your friends and loved ones?We tend to like three kinds of people that we interact with every day. The first kind of person that you are drawn to is someone who is very much like yourself. People who share ideals, hobbies, jobs, looks, tastes in music, art, etc. are people that we are naturally drawn to and tend to like first and foremost. With people like this we find that it is very easy to like them because they are very much like ourselves. This is also the shallowest of connections of the three. The second type of person that we like would be the person that we want to be like. These are the individuals in our lives that we admire or look up to. We see them in some way as our superior and we are drawn to them because we want to emulate them in some way. There may just be one area of their life that we are drawn to and they may look up to use in some other way too. This is a very strong connection between two people when they both have a mutual, yet different admiration for each other. The final type of person that we are drawn to is the person who likes us back. Much like the person we admire the person who likes us back is very easy to like. You have likely heard the saying that "To have great friends, be a great friend". This is very true and it is shown here in this principle. This form of rapport is strong because we love ourselves first. When we see that someone else has realized how great we are we are naturally drawn to them.
