Moving house is said to be one of the most stressful things any adult can go through in their lifetime, following parenthood, planning a wedding and bereavement. But while it's understandable that moving into a new home can be stressful, there are ways that you can lessen the amount of pressure and anxiety that surrounds the move.
Get Organised
Once you've found your new home, you have to recognise that moving in doesn't have to be complicated, and you can help yourself out by getting organised and doing the important tasks first. Make a list of all the friends, relative, companies and institutions that you need to inform of your change of address, and write to them advising them of your moving date. This will ensure that your post won't get delivered to your old address. If you have to register with a new doctor or dentist, make sure that you've set aside time to go and personally register as a new patient, and set up an appointment with your new doctor or dentist for an examination.
Find Help
Let's face it, you can't move house on your own, there will be so many boxes, bags and other items to carry that it would take you all day to move everything. So hire a removal company to help you, or if money is tight, ask friends and family with cars to help you move home. Create a private event of Facebook, or tweet those you trust and tell them that you need a hand, you never know, you may get lots of friends to help out.
Take Care of Your New Home
Whether you rent or own the property that you live in, it's important to look after it well. So once you've settled in, make sure you have home and contents insurance, and look into installing a burglar alarm or other security systems, which will look after your home if you decide to go on holiday. Also try to look after the appearance of the house by looking after the garden, and making sure any repairs are done quickly and efficiently - this will stop future, and much larger problems developing later on.
