I thought of buying a pair of lop eared rabbits to add in my collection of pets. My first decision was to buy only one; however, I don't want it to feel sad, that's why I decided to get a pair instead.
These animals are very cute and lovable. On the contrary, taking care of them should be done with careful considerations. Inline with this move, I also have to conduct some research on lop eared rabbit care to make sure that they will be given proper treatment.
First, I bought a cage that will be suitable for them. It made sure it has a plastic bottom because I don't want their feet to get hurt. It shouldn't be too small; instead, it should have enough space for them to play. It should not be too big either, lest, they will be scared. I clean this cage everyday to take away the odor of their droppings. It's really easy to do.
I also have to make sure that they will not be fed with onions, lettuce and potatoes because these foods may cause them to have diarrhea. Instead, I feed them with pellets and Timothy hay. This is very important to make sure they have a well balanced diet and you will not have to worry about unwanted odors in your home.
Just like cats, we shouldn't bathe rabbits. They clean and groom themselves. The downside of it is they may acquire hairball. When that happens, they can be really sick. What I did is I bought a soft bristled brush that I intend to use on them daily to remove any of their shedding hair. That should lessen the risk in them of getting hairball.
Just like humans, they need to exercise. That is why I let them out of their cage everyday so they can frolic around. I make sure I watch over them as they play because I don't want them to be able to get out of the gate. They can be very fast so it is a good idea to make sure you have them play in an enclosed area.
