The fact the vineyards had not been planted throughout the early growth at Robert Renzoni Vineyards in Temecula Valley Wine Country's vineyard development is the reason the wines produced there are so exquisite. While some vineyards in the Temecula Valley Wine Country were overtaken with Pearce's disease in the early to mid 1990s and subsequently plagued by an assault of aggressive mechanical and chemical remedies, Robert Renzoni Vineyards in the Temecula Valley Wine Country was untainted. When Robert began to develop the Renzoni vineyard in 2006, the soils were alive and healthy, and free from prior disease.
Starting with a clean slate, including untainted soil, allowed Robert Renzoni Vineyards to design the vineyards arrangements, making a special appeal to the beauty of the Temecula Valley Wine Country and complimenting everything it has to offer. Terrace selection, soil preparation, density of planting, trellis systems and selection of appropriate rootstock and clones were just some of the aspects of Robert Renzoni Vineyard's innovation that was applied in each specific soil type and microclimate in the Temecula Valley Wine Country.
The most significant aspect at Robert Renzoni Vineyards in the Temecula Valley Wine Country is that it keeps the soil alive with an assortment of plant life. Pests are managed through the use of organic materials, cover crops and other innovative practices, and only when required. From its very inception, Robert Renzoni Vineyards has been maintained with a strict criterion of care for the soil and the environment. These practices ensure that all grapes, from harvest to the actual wine, are of the highest quality and the best taste. The most intriguing detail of Robert Renzoni Vineyards is that no other vineyards or crops were ever planted at the estate, which allows for careful control and application of the soil in the Temecula Valley Wine Country. The Renzoni Family History:
The history of winemaking in the Renzoni family dates to 1886, when my great grandfather Federico began working in the vineyards near Fano, a small Italian village on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. While working in the vineyards, Federico and his father began making wine for family and friends. Federico decided to become a commercial fisherman along the shores of the Adriatic Sea. He soon became aware of a need for commercial fishermen in America, and emigrated there in 1912, where he worked in New London, Connecticut's fishing industry for two years. He then relocated to Buffalo, New York and entered into the wine & cordial business with his brother-in-law, Romeo Battistoni. Unfortunately, that venture was short lived, as they were forced out of business by the advent of Prohibition in 1918.
After many years apart, parts of our family were once again reunited in the Temecula Valley Wine Country, when my parents and I each moved here in 2004. Once here, the muse of winemaking again beckoned, due to the already profound history of winemaking in the Temecula Valley Wine Country. We purchased this beautiful property on De Portola Road in Temecula, and supplemented the existing vineyards with additional plantings in 2006. Our winery opened to the general public in the Spring of 2008 in the beautiful Temecula Valley Wine Country on De Portola Road.
