Anastasia State Park is located in St. Augustine Beach, Florida and provides one of the best quality camping locations in Florida. Owned and managed by the Florida State Parks system, the park draws in thousands of folks annually seeking a wonderful camping escape. Truthfully, camping at Anastasia State Park is so well-liked that the campsites are typically booked up months in advance. There are around 140 campsites and reservations can be made close to a year ahead of time. The sites feature both water and electricity hook ups and accommodate both tents and RV's up to forty ft in length. Each campsite also has a picnic table, a fire ring and a ground grill. There also is a centralized waste compacter to help keep the critters away.
Camping at Anastasia State Park is appealing to individuals for several good reasons. The camping spots are set within a thick stand of hardwoods and palm trees which provide a lot of shade and a sufficient amount of privacy from neighboring campers. In addition, the campground is split into a handful of loops and every loop features its own good sized bathhouse that is only just a few minutes walking distance from each campsite. The bathhouses are up kept well and each one has no less than three or four showers in each of the women's and men's bathhouse. As a local who features camped there a couple dozen times, regardless of the large sum of campers, I will tell you that I've rarely had to wait in line to grab a shower. If so, it has only been a couple of minutes.
In additional to the peaceful, tree filled surroundings the campground delivers, perhaps more inviting are the beautiful St. Augustine beaches that are just a short walk or bicycle ride down the road. It's merely a 5-10 minute walk or bike ride, but if you are taking a great deal of beach gear, then I highly recommend you just drive there. It's basically just a 1 minute drive from the camping area and there is a huge parking lot right at the beach. The beaches of Anastasia are recognized for their lovely sand dunes and sea oats and there is an impressive boardwalk out to the beach that provides some of the best views in the whole park. Sunbathing, swimming, surfing, kayaking and volleyball are a handful of the most popular beach activities and beach equipment rentals are found at the Salt Run Outpost, next to the parking lot, or at the Surf Station Surf Shop which is located just out in front of the park entrance.
Lastly, as a Florida native and someone who frequents the park, please let me will offer you up some suggestions. If you are planning your camping trip for the summer season, be sure to bring plenty of sun block, water, insect repellant and a fan for your camping area. If your trip is going to be within the cooler months, then take note that it could get very cold due to the proximity to the beach.
