DMAIC is the acronym of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. All these points contain a set of rules aimed towards attaining the desired results for carrying out a successful business.

D - "Define"
Defining the goals is the first step towards making a project. The goals set forth in the process are directed towards improvement of the product. Improvement includes various factors like enhanced output, creating a widespread market share and satisfaction of customers after using the product is also considered. While defining a product, the satisfaction of employees is also taken into consideration. The definition put forth for the product also helps to know customers' view regarding the products and this develops scope of improvement.
M - "Measure"
This tool is meant for measuring the defects of the existing methods. The various measurement techniques used in DMAIC methodology help finding out the flaws in an organization. Such defects are technically termed as 'Critical To Quality' (CTQs). Other than measuring the CTQs, the risks and capabilities of production process are also taken into consideration under this parameter. A - "Analyze"
After carrying out a successful measurement of the defects, a sustained analysis is done to know the actual factors associated with hindrance of growth and decline of product quality. The analytical procedure is based on statistics and data compilation regarding the work flow of the organization. In short we can say that, the 'cause-effect relationship' is investigated with minute details. This phase is extremely crucial for product development because a concrete analysis is a quintessential factor required for the progress of a company.
