subject: What To Do When Google Changes Its Algorithm [print this page] What To Do When Google Changes Its Algorithm
When you have a new web design and you have spent time and effort getting it optimised for the key words that do relate to your business there is the danger that this placement you have can change.
Lets assume for a minute that you have reached page one on google and you are extremely happy with your current position. You might have engaged a search engine optimisation company to help you get to that position and you are starting to the the benfits that flow from being in this position. You start to get more phone and email inquiries and you can start to see the benefits of increased revenue. So what do you do, you put on more staff to handle the new business generated from your web design and you really start focusing on expansion. All is going great till one morning you turn your computer on and see to your total amazement that google has dropped your listing to the fifth page.
All of a sudden those inquiries that you were getting and all those great sales leads that you were getting from your website design has suddenly dried up and you have no where to turn to. You have been relying on google for all your sales leads and because of this you have what can be termed put all your eggs in one basket. What has happened is that google has tinkered with and changed its algorithm and this has affected the way that google has ranked your website. There is really not much you can do at this stage about this except try to contact your search engine optimisation company and see what they have to say about this. In most cases they will say not to panic which is the right thing to do and to keep on doing what you have been doing in the past that got you the ranking. If you do panic as a business owner and do some thing to your web site this may push you even further backwards. Ideally, you have to be patient and wait and see hat will happen and in the interim you are left with really no option or alternative than to commence a sponsored links or pay per click advertising campaign on google. This is expensive but as a business owner you really have no other choice if you want to be located on the very first page of google.
This ultimately is what google wants. Remember they are a business and do rely on these sponsored links for revenue and for business survival. So its in googles interest to make and force businesses not to rely on organic listings but to in fact pay for these listings and to pay for the privelege of being on the fron page.
