Reading the sales pages of some of the Life Coach Training websites you could be forgiven for thinking that all that is needed to be a successful Life_Coach is to get your certification, start a self development blog and announce to the world that you are open for business. That once you have you Life Coaching diploma hanging on your wall a steady stream of clients will be beating a path to your door to hire you as their coach.
Unfortunately, even though the self development industry is one of the lucky few to be still in a phase of growth, it still hasn't escaped the ravages of the recession. There are many more these kind of professional struggling to fill their practices than there are those that have a full client load and are turning people away.
Whereas there are without doubt multiple reasons for this, it is primarily down to the fact that most of these professionals don't know how to market themselves properly. Life Coaching is no different to any industry in so much as it isn't enough to simply have a product. You also have to let people know you have that product and show them why they need it.
Because marketing is somewhat of a black art, many coaches prefer to take the do it myself' approach. Rather than paying a professional marketer, or even better, a professional marketer that specializes in dealing with Life Coaches, they spend hours and hours trying to do something that requires skills they don't have and waste time that would be better spent honing their craft or dealing with clients.
An average session with an experienced and skilled Life Coach Professional can often cost anything from $100 upwards, which suggests they value their time at that amount. Yet some Coaches are prepared to spend hours and hours trying (and usually failing) to market their business not realizing the true cost.
If you are a Life_ Coach you probably tell your clients they are investing in their own future by hiring you, and that would be true. So take your own advice and you invest in your own future by hiring a professional to do the stuff that you really aren't trained to do.
