subject: An Analysis Of The Iit-jee 2009 [print this page] The IIT-Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) questions are always unique in their context which bobs up the complexity in IIT JEE preparation, and thus cracking IIT JEE requires a combination of concepts across different chapters. However, some basic data analysis about IIT JEE can be quite revealing and could give some important insights into how an IIT Aspirant should go about IIT JEE Preparation for each subject. Such an IIT JEE analysis forms the basis of our understanding in JEE.
Pattern Changes in the IIT-JEE exam
The overall difficulty level of IITJEE 2009 papers was more than that of IIT JEE 2008 papers. IIT JEE experts deem that introduction of More than one choice correct type of questions and subjective type questions with negative marking is a clear indication of JEE committee wanting to eliminate students who do guess work and preferring those IIT JEE Aspirants who work out the problems.
There were 60 questions in IIT JEE 2009 paper 1 (20 each) and 57 in IIT JEE 2009 paper 2 (19 each). Each paper carries 240 marks. Combined together students were supposed to score from 480 marks.
Change of Pattern in IITJEE exam
Change of pattern in IIT JEE is a conscious effort by the IITs to build unpredictability into the exam. Students who can apply IIT JEE Syllabus concepts on the fly generally perform better than those who tend to memorize concepts.
The major changes this year in IIT JEE 2009 exam as compared to IIT JEE 2008 were:
* Subjective type questions were introduced again. There were 8 subjective questions in IIT JEE paper 2 for each subject. There was negative marking for wrongly marked choices. Total of 24 subjective type questions with negative marking will make scoring difficult this time.
* After a long time more than one choice correct type of questions with negative marking were introduced in IIT JEE 2009. This will eliminate people who do guess work in the paper.
Assertion and Reason type of questions were removed from both papers this time.
Difficulty Level
Mathematics papers in IIT JEE 2009 were definitely difficult especially IIT JEE paper 2 where subjective questions were introduced and even the matrix (match the column) type of questions were not easy to score. In IIT JEE Paper 1 also questions were taking time to solve and it was not easy to score marks. IIT JEE 2008 Mathematics papers were also difficult especially paper 1 but IIT JEE 2009 mathematics papers can be rated as more difficult of the two to score.
Both Chemistry papers in IIT JEE 2009 (I and II) were trickier than the chemistry papers of the last year IIT JEE. Multiple choice and Match the columns were tricky but certainly not difficult. IIT JEE Mathematics Papers seemed to be easy at first but the trick element made scoring difficult for the IIT JEE Aspirants.
In Physics paper -1, about three fourths of the paper was easily solvable. Paper 2 required more time and patience to solve questions. Overall, the papers were moderately difficult. It will also be rated as a low scoring paper.
