I suppose Spanish is the language that most people want to learn. Learning Spanish online is not as stressful as going on a course, physically. In addition to listening to the teacher, you must also listen to all the other students. It's better and easier (I think) to learn via online courses.
Of course it is advantageous to be able to talk with others who want to learn the language. It is perhaps an advantage. But I prefer to take courses via the Internet. Then I can do it at my own pace and no one nags at me:)

Spanish is spoken by at least 350 million people and is currently the 4th most commonly spoken language worldwide.
How widespread is Spanish?

How fast can you learn to speak Spanish?
Fluency can take anywhere from 6 months to several years but if you are seriously studying the language, you can learn to speak so everyone can understand, within 2 or 3 month.
The best language students are always the ones who jump in and learn by trial and error.

I have found a course that I'm happy with and in 6 days can learn so much Spanish that I can have a small conversation with anyone in Spain:)
