It's too easy these days to become fixated on gimmicks and tricks when it comes to health. Magical protein powders that guarantee incredible new bodies in mere weeks, secret gym moves involving bosu balls and strange squats, or incredibly detailed High Intensity Interval Training plans that require strict adherence to their four minute durations. However, beyond all this nonsense lies the basics, the three essentials that are the foundation of any good system for health. These three basics are good nutrition, good sleep, and good exercise. In today's article we will discuss how each of these are necessary for a complete system of health.
The most important and basic of these three, and incidentally the hardest, is to ensure a good source of nutrition. This needs to be constant, needs to be composed of whole foods, and needs to be as varied as possible. We need to eat as wide a variety of fruit, vegetables and proteins as possible, so that we benefit from the thousands of different minerals, vitamins, phytochemicals and more. It is absolutely essential to drink plenty of water, to eat as many different colored fruits as possible, to stick to organic, natural meats as we can.
The second most important aspect of good health lies with good exercise. Our bodies are designed to move, to exercise, to be used, and if we spend eight to ten hours a day doing nothing by typing on computers then they will become stiff and sore and begin to break down. We need to walk, to move, to run, to play sports and to lift weights. We need to work on our balance, our power, our strength and our flexibility in order to remain healthy, not just one aspect of all these.
Finally, we need at least eight hours of sleep per night. Less than that means we are groggy, exhausted, unable to think properly and feel miserable. We don't recover from the previous day's exercise, and are unable to enjoy the quality of life we are building for ourselves. So there you have itthe three crucial aspects of health.
