Phuket first became a tourist destination in the early 1970's mainly for backpackers; it has since developed into a bustling holiday resort. Airlines in Australia and Thailand are opening new flights to Bangkok and Phuket. These new flights from Bangkok Airways and Australian company Strategic Airlines are going to help boost the countries already booming tourism trend.
Bangkok Airways has opened up new flights from India and Bangladesh to Bangkok. These new flights are expecting to increase sales to 27%, with revenue of THB10.5 billion. They are to release 6 flights per week to the destinations of Mumbai and Dhaka.
Strategic Airlines, with headquarters in Brisbane, began deploying flights from Melbourne and Brisbane to Phuket mid February 2011. Strategic Airlines will be opening another head office in Luxemburg, which will charter flights throughout Europe.

Phuket has reaped the benefits after flights were chartered from Russia and China to the resort destination. Thalang Road is the commercial centre of the old town and it is here that you will discover some extraordinary little shops selling Chinese herbal medicine and handicrafts.
Of course we must mention the spectacular beaches of Phuket which boast an abundance of white sand and crystal clear waters. Bangtao Beach is probably the most beautiful with its 6km of gorgeous beach, many parts towards the north have no developments at all and as the beach is mainly only used by the Hotel guests it is very peaceful and quiet.
