Help For People Starting Out With Song Writing and Music Production

I have been doing music production and also song writing for eight years. When I started out it would seem that when ever I did do anything, I was behind everyone else and not quite at the same level as everyone else, who were also just starting out. Like many things I found that sticking at it was the hardest yet most rewarding thing. A lot of the people who I elevated above myself do not write or produce anything any more. To them it was just a fad or some short term thing. That knowledge in itself is very empowering.

Anything creative is never easy, unless you have had your skill honed by a parent from a young age. The reason why something creative is never easy is because everyone is different and everyone learns and expresses themselves in different ways. There is no guide to be read that will help you achieve what your peers or heroes have achieved. The only guide that you can read to help you would be one that you yourself have written. You would have to find the knowledge that you seek first though so it would be a little pointless.

I am here just to let you know a few little things that I believe would benefit anyone seeking a career within song writing or/and music production.

- Make sure you have some space to work: This is so you can just start and stop whenever you want and not be slowed by things in the way. There is nothing more annoying than needing to sort a ton of stuff out before you can get near your equipment.

- Have a good (not also expensive) pair of headphones/speakers: No need to make yourself eat bread and water for a month and no need to have some useless equipment will never give you an honest picture of your mix.

- Have breaks: This is the best kept secret, we all know that 'Neo' in 'The Matrix' can go for hours learning Kung Fu, thing is though, that was a film, it was under two hours. Your film (or your life) is a lot longer. Take breaks! The difference you will feel, write and produce is amazing
