According to Jerry Powell of Resource Recycling magazine about 25% of all the scrap collected in the U.S. is exported to many emerging economies particularly in Asia and Middle East. This statistic only conveys how recycling substantially contributes to the global economy. The fact that energy prices continues to increase, recycling has been considered as one way to improve energy conservation. Producing materials from natural resources consumes a lot of energy but with recycling only a fraction of energy needs to use for producing new materials. With this, recycling significantly reduces the energy usage making the production cost effective.
Large scale recycling center is known as MRF or Material Recovery Facility. MRF is one of the innovative waste management systems which greatly help in minimizing the waste materials in our environment. MRF has sorting machinery wherein it divides recyclables according to end marketable usage. Normally, there are two different types of MRF, the clean and dirty MRF's. Nonetheless you don't need to have your own MRF at home to start recycling. You can do it by simply segregating waste materials into non-biodegradable and biodegradable then sell the non-biodegradables to any recycling center near you or you can reinvent the material into something new.
